You don’t want to miss this! On the journey of Holy Week, we are not merely passive observers of our sacred story – we are companions engaged in the great adventure of being the body of Christ together. We involve our whole bodies in the ritual actions and drama of these days, which in turn shape us for lives of praise and protest, loving service, lament, prayer, and fierce resurrection hope.
Maybe you haven’t been to Holy Week services before, and you’re not sure what it’s all about. Maybe you have a neighbor who needs to encounter Jesus’ healing power in community. Maybe you have a congregation friend you haven’t seen in a while. What an opportunity to hear the call of Jesus freshly, and to extend a simple, personal, loving and direct invitation to some friends to join you at services on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Vigil, and Easter Sunday. Jesus invites us, as he stretches his arms out in love: “Come and see.”
Our services include:
Sunday, April 13 – Palm and Passion Sunday, 10:30AM – We begin worship this Sunday in the narthex, waving our palms and processing in the street, proclaiming Christ and God’s reign of justice and peace. Then, we will listen as members read the Passion according to Luke. Service will include Holy Communion.
Thursday, April 17 – Maundy Thursday, 6:30PM – We remember how Jesus washed the disciples’ feet and taught them – and us – to love one another. The service will include footwashing, handwashing, and Holy Communion.
Friday, April 18 – Good Friday, 6:30PM – We will listen to the Passion according to Mark with contemporary reflections on suffering love. We will pray around the cross for the whole world, remembering Christ’s passion and solidarity with all who suffer still.
Saturday, April 19 – Easter Vigil, 6:30PM – We begin worship outside on Chicago Ave around a new fire. We come in and listen to the stories of our faith as told by many members. We gather at the font for Holy Baptism and to welcome new members. We share in Holy Communion and in a Vigil Feast! As we sing – “This is the night!”
Sunday, April 20 – Easter Sunday – Come at 9AM for Easter Breakfast! Worship at 10:30AM featuring OSLC brass players, a new song by Bret Hesla, and of course at the center – the good news of Christ’s resurrection! We will share in Holy Communion and lots of Alleluias and bell ringing will resound as we proclaim: “Alleluia, Christ is risen!”
All Holy Week services will be livestreamed on YouTube. The links will be provided in our weekly update email and in daily emails Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
