OSLC Offers Same-Gender Marriages

Council Resolution for Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church
Regarding Officiating at Same-Gender Weddings

Whereas, same-gender civil marriage will become legal in Minnesota effective
August 1, 2013,

And, whereas, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) has long
been engaged in a process of careful discernment around matters of
sexuality, and, in 2009, approved the social statement, Human Sexuality:
Gift and Trust, which permits congregations and their clergy to bless
permanent life-long same-gender relationships,

And whereas, Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, as a congregation, strives
to support gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender individuals and their
families within the context of our congregation and community; and commit to
pastoral support, congregational policies, and legal recognition for all
individuals and families,

Therefore, be it resolved that Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of
Minneapolis, a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America,
and located in the civil jurisdiction of Minneapolis, Minnesota, hereby will
recognize, host, and support its ordained clergy in presiding at same-gender
marriages, following the same policies and procedures used for
opposite-gender marriages.
