January 2019 Adult Education

This month, we have a variety of forums for you – a feast of opportunities to learn and grow in faith and discipleship. See below for the calendar and notes on each offering. We meet from 9-10 am on Sunday mornings. Hope to see you there!

January 6- ISAIAH in 2019: We will run and not be weary!

Come and learn about opportunities to work together with ISAIAH in 2019 to seek justice and racial equity in Minnesota. We are called to be a people of hope. How might we be sustained in hopeful action this year? “God gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:30-31.

January 13- Welcoming members of BOLD (Bread of Life Deaf Lutheran Church)

We will welcome Pastor Michelle Lewis and members of Bread of Life Deaf Lutheran Church to hear stories about their faith community and to learn more about the experiences of deaf folks in our church.

January 20- Storytelling fest: sharing our stories about Our Saviour’s

As we look to the future this 150th anniversary year, we will be going through a strategic planning process (see Pastor Laurie’s article). We are kicking off this process by listening to each other’s stories about why we’re here and what we hope for. During this forum, everyone will have an opportunity to share stories and listen to others around tables.

January 27- A current look at homelessness in Minneapolis and beyond

In this forum, we will explore the realities of homelessness today and the structural issues behind the housing crisis, including systemic racism, economic immobility, and lack of affordable housing. We hope to make this session the first in a series that would continue into February. Because alleviating and eliminating homelessness has been central to our mission as a congregation, we hope that a deeper dive into this topic will help us to discern how else God is calling us to partner going into the future.
